FAQs for new Traffic Controllers

1) What do I need to become a Traffic Controller?

You will need to hold valid Traffic Control Tickets (Control Stop Slow Bat RIIWHS205D) and (Implement Traffic Management RIIWHS302D), as well as a White or Red Card. You will also need to have excellent customer service skills, be flexible and reliable as the work can vary with times and days.

  • 3) What minimum PPE do I need to hold?

    Reflective Pants, High Vis Vest, Reflective shirt or Jumper, 2 Way Radio; 80 Channels and must be 2 or 5-WATT, Lace Steel Cap Boots, Hard hat with Brim, Safety Glasses, Night whites (for night shift only).

    4) When do we get paid?

    Pay cycle is weekly

  • 5) I haven’t received work in a few weeks. Should I be worried?

    Due to the nature of the role and industry, the work can be very inconsistent. There are several factors which determines the amount of work you receive such as weather, projects, holiday periods, and specific site inductions. It also depends on you to get in touch with the Operations team and remind them of your availability. You can do this via email [email protected]

    6) How long do shifts last?

    This can vary anytime from 4 to 12 hours per day

    7) When are shifts allocated?

    Usually, shifts are allocated on a day by day basis. If you don’t hear from us by 5pm, chances are you are not working the next day unless there is a last-minute call out.

  • 8) I have work tomorrow and I’ve suddenly become ill overnight. Do I wait to call in sick in the morning?

    NO, as soon as you know you are unable to work the next day you must notify Operations ASAP so they can replace your shift. Operations are 24/7 service and have an afterhours department.

    9) How do I increase my chances of getting work?

    The more online inductions you complete, the better! Your availability and reliability play a big part in the amount of work you receive. It’s all up to you!

    10) Can I park at STA site?

    No. Parking at STA depot is purely for company vehicles. There is plenty of parking around STA side streets.

    11) When can I call the Operations team after hours?

    This number is for emergencies, client bookings/cancellations and staff calling in sick or an issue on site. Please use your discretion when calling the Operation team member.
